ABOUT ME:
I am a Rn, dx'd w/ migraines for over 25 years have always had periods of severe 6 months spans with week long headaches and then periods of a few months where I felt better. 12 yrs ago I got progressively worse with bad days being more frequent than good days. Being an ER, cancer, special procedure, same day surgery nurse I really felt I had access to the best care from the "inside tract" and nothing worked .Saw numerous neurologist's in different states as my husbands job moved us and know one could find a rescue or preventative med that worked. We settled in Atlanta 12 years ago so that stabilized my care, but, moving also gave me access to lots of different doctors. In Atlanta Topamax worked for awhile and then I was up to 300 mg /day and felt so sluggish, it really affected my concentration, I was tired but willing to take it and it just quit working. Around 2006, my headaches were -45 days /week, and by 2007 daily. AT that point I was unable to work. I tried numerous meds preventatives ,all the abortive, 5 different chiropractors for 6-8 months each, psycho therapy for months, acupuncture, bio-identical hormones, hormone patches, chinese herbs, hundreds of dollars in vitamins, botox, and finally numerous procedures at a pain clinic, nothing worked. I also saw a holistic , integrative internist who studied with Andrew Wile(not sure if I spelled that right)-no success. To complicate things I have numerous drug allergies, and a histamine reaction with many pain meds-even when i do a 5 med pre med to try and prevent (that might be a little confusing for non medical readers). I have had trigger point injections, radio frequency ablations and nothing has worked, My migraines are daily 24/7 . I do have on diagnostic finding a disc issue at C5 and TMJ, did the mouth guard too. Also sleep apnea check and repaired deviated septum and turbinates (sinus surgery)- which I consider I waste I still can't breathe any better. I am basically bedridden, just applied for disability to try and help pay all the medical costs and i was denied, 1st time, of course. i have good documentation from all these doctors who luckily, for me, are supportive of me applying and have even said i waited to long. The tole this invisible illness takes on your family is awful. I even know of 2 deaths in the past year I know were migraine related , people so sick , they were mixing meds, and died. How many undocument deaths are occurrring every year, they were 32 and 50 , both women. My drug list is 1/4 of what it has been in the past
