Avodart add-on

By Jeff Saturday, May 17, 2008

I was diagnosed with Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in August of 2006. I have been taking hytrin (terazosin) (80mg) each evening since then.

My wife saw an ad for Avodart (dutasteride) (0.5mg). I googled it then asked my urologist about it. He gave me some samples and a prescription and told me to take it in addition to the hytrin. I have been taking both now for about 2 months.

I don't see any real changes yet, and no side effects that I didn't already have. But I have to wonder about adding another drug. I think I should be taking one or the other, not both. Any comments?

Dude!!

I'm thinking both medications treat the same issue (BPH), so I guess I'm wondering why you should or would be taking both at the same time? I have been taking Terazosin for almost two years myself, and when I see you claiming to be taking 80 Mg dosage, I'm like WTF????????? I take between 2 and 10 mg per day. I didn't notice any bigger improvement of symptoms at 8 or 10 Mg dosage, but did notice being much groggier the next day. How can you function on 80 mg??
