About 6 months ago I started on Androgel for low testosterone. My baseline PSA was 1.3.
Now, 6 months later it has number to 2.5.
Does this mean I have the beginning symptoms of prostrate cancer because the hormone made what could have been dormant now florid?
I am concerned about the velocity here.
Any guidance on what to do next?

Hi BigBroNewHope,
I found some information on the site that you might find helpful. There is not only a wealth of information, but also some resident experts who have written articles that might help you. Remember though, this information should not take the place of a doctor's advice. Only you and your doctor know what is best for you and your health. This might give you some insight to be able to ask the rights questions when you see your doctor.
There is a very good article written by the Harvard Health Publications
that specifically address whether or not older men are at risk for cancer if they use Androgel replacements. You can read the entire article here.
Basically, " most experts do not recommend the use of testosterone replacement with drugs like AndroGel unless the man has very low levels or is symptomatic. " It sounds like your levels were low enough to concern your physician.
One of the resident experts here, Dr. Jay Matola, had an article about Androgel and vitamin suppliments. You can read that article here.
Dr Marc Greenstein has a very informative article about PSA velocity and what a quick rise may mean. That article is located here.
Remember, it's always best to discuss this with your doctor and make a plan for treatment with him. You are ultimately responsible for your health and this information might help you manage your day to day care.
Good luck and stay in touch!! Let us know how you are doing!
