There are many other treatments out there for enlarged prostate. I would recommend that you peruse http://www.healthcentral.com/prostate/enlarged-prostate-treatment.html, which lists a plethora of different treatment options. If you haven't already done so, I would also recommend that you consult your physician for medical advise on the next step. Do not simply "wait;" be proactive by following the possible treatment options described in the website above or following your physician's prescribed advice.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi-

If insurance covers microwaving, you might try that..unfortunately it didn't help me and I tried both THERMATRX and TARGIS -- it doesn't work about 30% of the time I have read. You might also try Transurehral incision--that is not as likely to cause retrograde ejaculation--I had the first of THREE TURPS last August and after the first one, "Cimax" has NEVER been the same as before..The sensation loss has been significent. I would do ANYTHING before giving in to a TURP if I had it to do over. I was only 56 when I had surgery--what has happened as a result has not significently improved my initial problem and caused one that is much more bothersome for me than what I started out with.

I took double doses of FLOMAX or URAXATROL for about 2 years . Also watch out for side effects of AVODART....when they tell you in their TV ads it might cause "swelling of the breast" believe them...I am embarassed to take off a shirt at a pool now since this hapened to me. Been off the drug for a while and no reduction so far...Since it is asymetrical, it is even more noticable. I am VERY thin (6 ft 4 in and 180 lbs) so this is NOT a weight issue at all in my case. Good luck--you sure are young for this problem to start-- I thought I was at 54 and my urologist said I was about 10 years younger than his typical patient.

    Hi GWTW,

Thank you for the suggestions. I really appreciate your recommendations regarding Avodart. I was recently prescribed Avodart...I am 6'6" and weigh 200 lbs and based on what you experienced, it doesn't sound as though the benefits are worth the risks.

Perhaps the microwave/light therapy will do the trick. I've got a lot of life and living to do and I don't want to deal with a permanent loss or function of my sexual functioning.

    Thanks again,

    Hi-

I just was emailed an article about BOTOX injections in the prostate-- seemed to help some folks for up to a year and could be done in the urologist's office--have you read or heard anything about that-- you might ask-- The artice said it did NOT result in Retrograde ejaculation, which TURP did to me and caused a MAJOR sensation loss...orgasm as I ever knew it is just not there--Had I known about this possibility after I failed microwave therapy (that after the drugs thing became ineffective) I'd have gone for a does of it to see if it put off surgery--GWTW

    GWTW,

Thank you again. I have not heard about Botox therapy. I will need to read more about it.

I appreciate your update and willingness to disclose the hazards of a TURP. I will definitely put it off as a last resort.
