My friend who is in his early 50's just got the results of his annual PSA test which was between 4-5.  The previous 6 annual tests results were in the 1-2 range every year, until now.  His brother recently had his prostate removed due to cancer. He now has to see a specialist. ...

    Hello Adwizard,

Welcome to Health Central. This is a very good place to get some information to help you (and your friend) manage your own health care. While no online site can take the place of your doctor's advice, there are some links here that will help you when it comes time to ask all the right questions. Only you and your doctor know what is best for your health.

There is a good article by Dr Marc Greenstein located here about PSA's, what the numbers mean and what a big rise in them could mean. It's a good read. Dr. Greenstein also posted a sharepost about living a normal life with an elevated PSA. You can read that here.

I hope this information helps. If you have concerns, the best thing to do is make an appointment with your doctor. All men should begin to have their prostates checked at intervals prescribed by your doctor. If you are having PSA tests then it's time.

Please stay in touch and let us know how you and your friend are doing!!
