NEW Prostate Check Up?

By crazycatalan Thursday, November 29, 2007

Hello. I heard that there is a new method for a Prostate Check up that does not involve a rectal examination. I as many man over 50, are somehow afraid, uncomfortable or simply, umbarrassed to go dor a rectal examination. If there was areliable and positive alternative to the rectal examination it would help a lot of men get their prostate exam regularly thus detecting many more problems that now are undetected until it is too late.

My QUESTION here is: It is true that there is an alternative prostate examination to the old basic rectal prostate exam?

 Thanks

Rectal exams are not anything to fear or shun.  With enough K-Y, it is imperceptibly uncomfortable for less than 20 seconds.

Hi. Thank you for your response. Wow! It took a year and a half for my question to reach you...... I thought the Internet it was much quicker. Sorry to take up your time.

You mentioned how not uncomfortable is the exam. i already know how uncomfortable it is. I have it a few times already. But my question was if you knew if there is something else. I heard that it can be done without the insertion of fingers. Is that true? Do you know anything about it?

MY QUESTION WAS: It is true that there is an alternative prostate examination to the old basic rectal prostate exam?

 Thanks

Hi:  a urologist can use ultrasound to examine the prostate.  If they find something irregular they can biopsy it and check for pathology.
