Prostate questions high PSA

By lafguy Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Hello there I came across this site and figured I would stop by and get feedback from others who have been through this stuff.

I'm 44 almost 45 year old that has a family history (my dad) had prostrate cancer. I have had a PSA test since my 40th birthday.

Sept 06 I had my physical and my prostrate exam no enlargement. When I got my results of my PSA test it was 2.1. So my doctor said, if its 2.1 or higher this month he wants me to see a urologist for consultation.

I guess it was a myth I always thought high PSA equaled enlarged prostate automatically.

My level was .05 in 03 1.5 in 04 1.9 in 05 2.1 in 06

What is the tests do they do?

Biopsy? And what else?

How painful are these tests? I'd prefer to feel nothing will they offer to knock me out so I feel nothing

Thanks

I hope your PSA level was done.  And a biopsy isn't as bad as it sounds.  My husband age 59 made out fine.  He said it wasn't as bad as he expected.  He had his done in August and does have T1C contained prostate cancer.
