My husband has Prostate Cancer

By myjoy2go Thursday, November 01, 2007

I have a many questions that will take a book so I will keep this brief.

My husband age 59 was diagnosed with T1C contained adenocarcinoma cancer of the prostate in August 2007.

His PSA previously were normal in the past but in March it was was 4.3 and the doctor requested another PSA in May and it was 5.8 which in turn sent him to an urologist.  A biopsy was preformed in August and with the above results.

We are doing some alternative things diet, supplements, antifungal and in October his PSA came back 3.2 normal.

We had a second opinion but this was with the same biopsy slides so the results are the same. And the doctor of the second opinion is not aware that the PSA is now normal.

My husband wants to watch and wait recheck the PSA in January 2008 and if it is normal again he will have another biopsy in August 2008.

What advice would you give him?

I was diagnoised on March/06 and have chosen "active surviellience",I go every 4 mos. for PSA and DRE,my original PSA was 4.5 and is now 3.25,which is 17 months later. When I decide to get treated it will be with Proton therapy,at Loma Linda University in California,go on their web site, and you will be very impressed. Also purchase the book "you can beat prostate cancer" by Robert J. Marckini, good luck,Wayne

Wayne,

Thank you for the informative information.  I quickly did research and will give the information to my husband.  Currently if he has to any treatment he is looking a brachytherapy at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelpia, PA.  But I will give him this information.

Did you change your diet?

Thanks

Hello Myjoy2go,

It's been a while since you posted this. I hope the news since November has been good. I was looking around on the site and there are some resources you and your husband might consider reading. This information is not to replace the advice of a doctor, but will help you gather the questions you want to ask the doctor when you see him.

There is a good overview of Prostate Cancer located here.  In the overview you will see that there is a section about causes and risk factors as well as treatments. There is also a resource section here that has some great links to information particularly prostate cancer survivors.

I hope this helps some. It's difficult to sit back and watch someone we love endure challenges like this without feeling some what helpless. But knowledge is power, and the more information you have in your stock pile, the easier it will be to fight. Good luck and please stay in touch. Let us know how you and your husband are doing!

Hello Myjoy2go,

It's been a while. I am just wondering how you and your husband are doing? You said you were doing a wait and see until January, but I have not seen anything from you since then.

I hope all is well. Please let us know what progress you and your husband have made.

Vicki M
