Sixteen months after radiation (HDR/brachytherapy & temporary seeding), my husband starting bleeding and having difficulty urinating.  It turned out he had urethreal damage.  After 3 cystocopies, a visit to Cleveland Clinic to see if surgery could remove the damaged area, and daily cautherizations by me, his oncologist suggested Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO).  He underwent 50 treatments, everyday Monday-Friday, for 3 months.  Within two weeks of finishing his treatments, the bleeding stopped and I have not had to cautherize him since.  HBO is equivalent to deep-sea diving and 100% oxygen is delivered to promote healing.  Knock on wood as to if the results are permanent, however, he completed these treatments almost 5 months ago and so far, so good.  I wanted to share this information and these positive results.  We had never heard of this treatment before and were facing a very painful surgery in hopes of correcting this problem.   When we asked the surgeon about HBO, he told us that the therapy wouldn't hurt but he doubted that it would help.  But...it did!!!  Before thinking of surgery, please check into HBO.
