Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urinary tract and is a fairly common entitiy. Blood can be either gross bleeding (gross hematuria) which is visualized with the naked eye and easily detected by the patient or microscopic hematuria that is only detected with the use of a microscope.

I've been treated for a uti with cipro and pyridian. The infection is gone but I am still bleeding at the end of a urinary flow. It is very painful, especially after getting up and walking away from the restroom. I've been given uribel but the pain is persisting. How long should this significant bleeding continue before returning to the urologist?
