My Dad had Prostate cancer so I went every year to get the test done. Two years ago they said I had Prostate cancer. I went to KC and had the radioative seeds put into my Prostate. Now I wish I had just had my Prostate removed at the time the cancer was discuovered. A year after I had the seeds put in I found out they had not worked but was also causing scar tissue to form. I had to have my Prostate removed. Now my cancer is gone but I can not control my urinary tract. The doctor is talking about putting in a sling but I see on the TV that they have a lot of problems with this. I am not sure if it is only with women or men too. I just know that I am tired of living with this problem, it makes it very difficult to go out anywhere. This article gave me some very good information that I can discuss with my Urologist. I am very thankful for the informtion.
i had a radical prostatectomy and my doctor told me about the kegel exercises and after doing them i started to regain continence in a matter of weeks.
it has now been about 6 months since the procedure and other than a very infrequent accident i have completely regained contience even since my doctor told me i could get back on my bicycle(please wait for okay from your doctor to do any exercise like this!).
my doctor has been completely honest with me about the entire procedure and what to expect and told me i have a very good chance of being cancer free, that he believes he got all the cancer which will probably extend my life about another 20 years at least and i am grateful for that.
the important thing i cannot over stress to all men past 50 is to have psa and exams at least once a year, as they have been trying to tell men for years-catch this cancer early and your odds are much better for survival.
don't be embarrased about any of the tests or procedures and like me don't be afraid to discuss it, you might help some guy who is sitting on the fence so to speak to reach out to his doctor for help. cancer is a disease that is so prevalent now and right behind womens breast cancer prostate cancer is a very close second place.
i am a grateful patient.
