Thank you for your clear concise explanation of the PSA.  I wish I had read this article several years ago.  My husbands PSA started at 8 and continued to rise.  Three separted biopies, and a PSA of 28 before the cancer was detected.  We were told it was probably an infection that was causing the rise, and the PSA dropped a few points on antibiotics only to rise again within 6 months.  I hope more men take their PSA reports seriously

I am  a 61yr old with a PSA of 1.8. Last test 1.0 , 1 year ago. Father, 3 brothers, 3 nephews all had prostate cancer.  MD want to "wait" six months to see if any change, I disagree. What "should" the PSA be at 61 ? Am I in the "norm" levels ?  Went to three doctors for different opinions, and I received three totally different theory's of what to do. All very different. why the mystery  of the "norm" of a simple test. I cant say I was not aware about potential problems with this in my family.
