Q: So any treatment to stop bleeding from the penis(bladder) due to the radiation of the prostate???

Four years ago had radiation to prostate for cancer.  First had problems with colon for bleeding - that was cauterized and stopped.  Now have bleeding and clots from bladder thru penis and have catheter in and am home.  No one seems to be able to figure out how to stop.  Am now self-irragating at home.  Still have clots which cause severe pain until I irragate.  Doctor gave me Finasteride - seems to be getting worse, heavier bleeding.  any ideas?suggestions?

thanks!

My husband had the same thing.  We went to Cleveland Clinic and they indicated he had urethral damage from the radiation and they could perform a resection and cut out the damaged area.  We were ready to have this surgery when his oncologist suggested HyperBaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) which promotes healing.  He underwent 50 HBO treatments over a period of 3 months.  Shortly thereafter the bleeding stopped.  He does have to have his urethra stretched, either in the doctor's office or by cystoscopy, every 6 months.  He also catherizes himself once a day to keep the urethra open.  It has been almost 2 years since he finished the HBO therapy.  I would highly recommend trying this option.  We had never heard of this before but it definitely was worth the hours he spent in the chamber.  Good luck.

my father had same thing.  they said his kidneys were shutting down and he had only days.  we had them do an ultra sound and they found the kidneys were blocked due to the blood clots.  the did a bilateral nephrostomy and sent him home on hospice.  he had complete bed rest and the bleeding stopped in 2 wks.  the catheter in the bladder was causing the bleeding with every move he made.
