Q: I have been diagnosed with bladder cancer. CT shows bone involvement. Is this bad?

I am a 72 year old male with multiple health issues.  Just to add some additional challenges for me, I have been recently diagnosed with bladder cancer!  The Cystoscopy showed this.  A CT bone scan with contrast dye shows cancer in my bones.  Is this an advanced stage of bladder cancer?  A digital exam of the prostate and the fact that my PSA levels are within normal range indicates that there is no prostate cancer.  My Urologist that will be doing the TUR said he may do a biopsy of the prostate, too and that I will probably have to undergo some chemotherapy.  He said nothing about radiation.  From this web site I have learned that a biopsy of the prostate is considered risky.

I guess my questions are:

How bad is my situation with cancer indicated in the bones?

If they are going to be fooling around with the prostate, should I just ask them to go ahead and remove that before it becomes cancerous too?

My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday, 9-9-2008.  It may be way to late to be posting these questions but, if someone can give me some insight as to what I am facing, it would be greatly appreciated.

The spread of cancer to the bones indicates that you have advanced disease.  Prostate cancer is more likely to be metastatic to bone, however, bladder cancer may also involve the bone.  You will require a bone scan to determine the extent of involvement as well as a prostate biopsy to determine if there is any evidence of prostate cancer.
