Can you drink alcoholic beverages while taking ciprofloxacin 500 mg?

Hi Burnell,

 

Thank you for your question. There is not a warning to avoid alcohol while taking ciprofloxacin. However, it is important to stay hydrated while taking ciprofloxacin, as one of the known side effects is crystalluria, which is small stones in the urine (similar to kidney stones). Alcohol can often lead to dehydration, which will increase the risk of developing these small stones, so it's probably best to avoid alcohol while taking this medication. I hope this helps.
