Q: Dr. Greenstein, I have just read about Fiducial marker seeds for Prostate Cancer. Is this procedure painful? My husband is having the procedure tomorrow with Valium only.

Fiducial markers are small gold pellets that are inserted into the prostate. Their purpose is to provide a point of reference for radiation therapy. THe procedure is associated with only a minimal amount of discomfort and should be well tolerated with Valium.
