Q: Doctor suggests use of finesteride to reduce bleeding from prostate-self cath

I self-cath due to atonic bladder. Have had 2 sessions of heavy bleeding which each stopped after 2 days.  My urologist has suggested finesteride to help reduce size of varices in my enlarged prostate, hence bleeding.  Good idea? Also take 20mg statin which has not affected my liver after 15 years.  Any suggestions, comments appreciated.
