Q: Will the prostate punch biopsy spread the cancer?

I am 69 years old, 5 foot 9, 163 lbs.  I had one biopsy with at least eight samples taken that showed a Gleason 7 on the left upper lobe.  I am worried about having more biopsies done and the risk of spreading the cancer.  They want to another biopsy now one year later and then do another one next year.  I was on Lupron shots and for the past two months have been on Avadart as part of a clinical study and no Lupron.  I am considering dropping out of the study because of my fear of more prostate biopsies.  My PSA went from 5.5 to 144 in three years.  Symptoms were impaired urination and having to get up twice during the night.  There was alternating pain in the left testicle.  Only slight pain left testicle remains.

A PSA of 144 is a very ominous sign.  I do not know the exact details of the cliinical study that you are participating in however, it is time to discuss with the investigator other options. A repeat biopsy is very important at this time as is a bone scan.  A repeat biopsy will not spread the cancer.
