Hi jmzagar,
Thank you for your question. I've seen studies with Avodart that last for three and four years. Some medications come with a warning that says something to the effect of "this medication not recommended for use greater than two years" - this is usually when the medication is new and hasn't been studied for longer than a two year duration. There is no such warning associated with Avodart, and it's been on the market since 2001, so it's been studied for quite some time.
That being said, this is something that you should discuss with your doctor. You should never discontinue medications without first speaking to your doctor, as some medications need to be weaned off to prevent side effects from occurring.
Best of luck,
Casey
