Flomax for women because of bladder problems. What are the side effects?
my dr.gave me flomax for my bladder incontinence and im a woman. is this going to harm me?
Hi Darlene,
Dr Matolo answered a users question regarding Flomax for women here. The user had been prescribed Flomax for Kidney Stones. Apparently the jury is still out as to whether it is a benefit or not. Read Dr. Motola's answer here. A member named PhD in Montreal, offered her experience with regard to Flomax and kidney stones. You can also read her response. However, I have not seen anything to suggest that doctors are prescribing this medication for incontinence. In fact, the opposite. Flomax is used to help increase the flow of urine in men. Casey McNulty is a resident expert and a pharmacist. She also does not recommend this medication for women. You can read her answer here.
Here's the full drug information for Flomax.
I hope this helps. Take care and stay in touch!

Hi Darlene,
Thank you for your question. Taking Flomax should not be harmful to you. However, keep in mind that Flomax is only approved by the FDA to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). You may want to ask your doctor why he is prescribing this medication to you when there are several other medications available that are used specifically to treat incontinence.
Best of luck,
Casey

I am a female who has been taking Flomax .04 mg off and on for about 2 or 3 years.
I have Interstitial Cystitis, with bouts of incontinence. I have taken all the female drugs for my problems but Flomax is the only one that works for me.
When I am in IC mode it is very painful to urinate, if I can urinate at all. Flomax really helps. I have an Interstem for my bladder (pacemaker).Although it hasn't helped much.
I have other health issues, one being vertigo. At times I have to stop Flomax because I get so dizzy I almost fall.I usually just land on the sofa or bed.
Lately I have noticed a lack of sexual interest. This is not normal for me.
After reading about Flomax here, I am seriously thinking about stopping the Flomax for good. But it so painful when I can not urinate as my bladder only holds 10 oz.
I am truely lost as what to do.
And I have talked the over with my doctors.
Sincerely, Di
