Hi Darlene,

Dr Matolo answered a users question regarding Flomax for women here. The user had been prescribed Flomax for Kidney Stones. Apparently the jury is still out as to whether it is a benefit or not. Read Dr. Motola's answer here. A member named PhD in Montreal, offered her experience with regard to Flomax and kidney stones. You can also read her response. However, I have not seen anything to suggest that doctors are prescribing this medication for incontinence. In fact, the opposite. Flomax is used to help increase the flow of urine in men. Casey McNulty is a resident expert and a pharmacist. She also does not recommend this medication for women. You can read her answer here.

Here's the full drug information for Flomax.

I hope this helps. Take care and stay in touch!

Vicki M

Hi Darlene,

Thank you for your question. Taking Flomax should not be harmful to you. However, keep in mind that Flomax is only approved by the FDA to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate). You may want to ask your doctor why he is prescribing this medication to you when there are several other medications available that are used specifically to treat incontinence.

Best of luck,

Casey

I am a female who has been taking Flomax .04 mg off and on for about 2 or 3 years.

I have Interstitial Cystitis, with bouts of incontinence. I have taken all the female drugs for my problems but Flomax is the only one that works for me.

When I am in IC mode it is very painful to urinate, if I can urinate at all. Flomax really helps. I have an Interstem for my bladder (pacemaker).Although it hasn't helped much.

I have other health issues, one being vertigo. At times I have to stop Flomax because I get so dizzy I almost fall.I usually just land on the sofa or bed.

Lately I have noticed a lack of sexual interest. This is not normal for me.

After reading about Flomax here, I am seriously thinking about stopping the Flomax for good. But it so painful when I can not urinate as my bladder only holds 10 oz.

I am truely lost as what to do.

And I have talked the over with my doctors.

Sincerely, Di

Taking Flomax off and on for two years for urinary retention post spinal surgery.  Sometimes it doesn't work.  I have had to go to ER and be cathed.

Is Flomax the best there is for this perhaps neurological problem?

I was given flomax also for kidney stone that is "hung up" near the bladder. I've taken it for four days now, and my "private" area feels like there's a TON of pressure and it's very uncomfortable. I haven't talked with the dr about it yet because the office is closed for the weekend. But could those symptoms be from the medication? I have never noticed it before. Also I feel like I have to pee and do about every 20 minutes.

I have bladder neuropathy. I had incontinence due to not being able to fully empty my bladder. I was on urocholine for years, not helping. Well I went to another Urologist, after doing an extensive testing, he prescribed flomax. I has worked fantastic. I am going to the bathroom better, empting, therefore not having as much incontinence. I am thrilled!!

I was recently prescribed Flomax to help pass kidney stones, I love it.  I've had reconstructive surgery of the bladder twice (after carrying & and giving birth to full term twins) I still always have to get up to go to the  bathroom at least once a night and when I lay down it always feels like I have to go.  Since I've been on the Flomax -4days now, I've not had to get up to go at night once.  I think if I could I'd definitely continue to use it.  I've had nothing but a good experience so far... oh yeah and it helped me with my kidney stone.  Laughing

I take Flomax for dropped bladder.....urinary incontinence from hysterectomy 12 years ago. Best thing since sliced bread!! It's sad that the insurance companies refuse to pay for something that is saving them from me having to go and have surgery to have my bladder tacked back up!
