Q: Need advise on going to first Eurologist appt. tomorrow........

my husband has been having prostate problems for a couple years and has just now completed the blood testing with a PSA score of 1.3. We are going to the Eurologist tomorrow. My question is this. Should we request a biopsy right away or allow the physician to simply prescribe medication? My fear is that we end up with a delay in treatment should he have cancer.  He has issues with urination, pain in abdominal area and has now become affected sexually.  What should we expect from the Doctor and what should we be requesting from our Doctor?

With a PSA of 1.3 and a normal examination it is extremely unlikely that this represents prostate cancer, and there is no need for a biopsy.  Some cases of prostate cancer can be associated with normal PSA readings, however, most often these patients would have an abnormal rectal exam.
