Q: can flomax be used for a female without kidney stone problems. And what is it that I need to know ab

Commercial states that dr need to know about being on flomax in refrence to eye procedure. What about that. I was subscribed flomax for several months for bladder issues-nothing more. I had to stop taking it due to a raised rash around my mid section. I worry about the fact that you never hear about women taking it. Plus I found out later that the Dr I had seen wasn't quite there--to put it nicely. I am a 30+ female. Could there be any side effects to me being on this medication?

Thanks for the questions. Flomax sometimes has a side effect called Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome which is observed during cataract surgery. Anyone who is taking Flomax and is undergoing this surgery needs to tell their doctor so that the doctor can use alternative methods of doing the surgery. You can read more in the professional drug information.

According to the same drug information, Flomax is not indicated for use in women. So it is tough to say what side effects you may experience. However, this list of side effects for the drug includes drowsiness, dizziness, unusual weakness, trouble sleeping and more.

If ever you have questions about a doctor's competence, you should seek the advice of another doctor.

I am a woman and was given flomax for a small kidney store, mainly to increase the diameter of the ureter with hope that the stone would pass easier.  About 8 hours after I took my first pill I developed a terrible rash on my arms, hands, torso and the bottoms of my feet (the bottoms were flame red and quite swollen).  I started taking benadryl and did not take another flomax pill, as advised by my doctor.  I had never had hives (that's what I was told the rash was) my entire life (57 years) until I took that flomax.  I have been on benedryl for about 36 hours now.  The rash and foot swelling disappeared after the first couple of doses.  I noticed this morning that I had a few recurring bumps on my hands and arms.  How long did your rash last, and did it keep recurring?
