Q: blood in semen for over one year

My husband (56), presented a case of prostatitis several years ago, the symptoms were blood in the semen, no other mayor discomfort. Urologyst prescribed him some antibiotic, and the bleeding stopped. His PSA is always very low; 0.05

But, this time the sceanario has changed dramatically, he started bleeding since oct 2007, since then,he has been prescribed with TONS OF ANTIBIOTICS, he's been having tons of semen cultures, every month. Each time a culture was performed, a different bacteria appeared, so, a different antibiotic was given. He's had like 7 different bacterias.

He had a cystoscopy, which came out good, then the first urologyst send him to a infectious disease doctor for him to evaluate the case.  More antibiotics were given to him, the infectious disease doctor said, there were two ways to go, trying with more antibiotics or surgery. He has had a CT SCan that reveals calcifications in the prostate.

On the last semen  culture one month ago, there was no bacteria, but the bleeding still continues.

We went to see another urologyst, because of the extreme preocupation, the urologyst performed a transrectal test, and ask my husband if he wanted him to do a biopsy, which the doctor didn't considered to be necesary...(i do). He told my husband not to pay much attention to the bleeding, that probably was due to the calcifications. In my opinion very little importance is been given to this bleeding, because our huge concern here is that the bleeding hasn't stop at all, in fact each time gets worse and worse, it comes out black, or red. It's horrible, it's scary.

Our questions are, although we know his PSA is very low,,,,is it necesary to do a biopsy, could this be cancer, do we not pay any more attention to the bleeding, is surgery recommended, is there any other test that he should considered?...What to do? please this has been going on for one year, yes, one year that we don't see a clear and clean semen.

PLEASE HELP US, GIVE US A LIGHT, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Thank you so much, and may God enlightened you doctors

I have been diagnosed with Hematospermia which is blood in semen.  I have visited the urologist few times, one time I had a culture then the doctor prescribed antibiotic, it worked for sometimes only then I took a different antibiotic and so far I still see blood in semen occasionally, not evry time I have sex.  The semen color goes from brownish to light or red blood.  I have been experiencing blood in semen for almost a year, checked my PSA good,  I was told by the doctor not to worry and he thinks it is just bacterial infection.  I am 47 years old and I am athletic so my case is very similar to your husband'case but my suggestion is to keep visiting the urologist, like myself until it is all clear.
