Q: Prostatitis or prostate cancer?

I am 38 years old Asian. It started with frequent urinations in late 2007. My PCP order a PSA test and it came back at 2.7 while the cut off value was 2.5 One week later I had another PSA at 2.4 and free PSA = 25%. I was referred to a specialist and had firstDRE in late February 2008. The Urologist told me that my prostate is smooth, soft, right lobe is slightly larger no nodule was found and prescribe one month of Septra and 2 weeks of Motrin (1800mg a day) since he believed there maybe some sort of inflamation going on. I thought the medications worked really well after I had them for 2 weeks. My frequencies were back to normal. After I stopped the medications for a month, the symptoms came back with some unconfortable feeling in the pelvic area.

I came back 3 months after that and had another PSA at 3.5. Second DRE is the same as the first. The Urologist prescribed my 1 month of Cipro to try but still did not recommend the biopsy because my PSA is still normal and free PSA is more than 15%.

I missed the chance to come back to see him late last year but I've just had a PSA test by Bayer at 2.2 while the cut off is 4. The same time it reported another PSA total at 2.6 and free PSA = 15%. My PCP told me to check again after 6 months. I am still having on and off symptoms such as weak urine stream, frequencies and unconfortable feeling in the pelvic area and sometimes with lower back discomfort.

I am so worry and confused, please let me know if they are prostate cancer symptoms? If DREs did not detect any nodule last year, can it become so large after a year and cause so many symptoms. Thank you very much for your time and I am very sorry for the long story.
