Blood in seminal fluid

LDonegan
10/11/08

I have been examined by a Urologist and I have done what the Doctor has wanted me to do by taking anti-biotics and even have had them refilled. However the bleeding has not stopped and has been ongoing for nearly 5 years now.

One doctor said it was rusty pipes, which is illogical as human beings do not have pipes that can rust...  I have had a cysto exam to check my prostate, my inflatable Penile Implant and that there was no problems that could be detected at exam.  Still I continue having blood in my semen and there is no blood in the urine.  I need to know what else could be causing this issue please.

Hi LDonegan,

It is a common occurance for there to be blood in semen. According to the Harvard Health Publications, there are many causes for blood in semen, most of them not serious.

You can read that article here. Dr. Jay Motola also wrote several articles about blood in the semen. You can read one of them here. Dr Motola does mention that there are concerns when other conditions are present. "A recent study has demonstrated an increased risk of prostate cancer in men with hematospermia. Obviously a rectal examination needs to be performed, and depending on your family history and age, a PSA determination."

There are also others who have experienced similar issues and have gotten advice from other users. Paul Durham had been experiencing blood after sex and told about his experience here.

I hope this helps! Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
