Q: I am 42 and have had a PSA level check of 3.3

I am 42 and have had a PSA level check, due to my Father having had Prostate cancer in his late 50's and he was told that all his sons should be checked once over the age 40.

My level is 3.3, which i am told is high for my age, and due to my family history the Urologist wants to perform a 40 point biopsy under general anestetic.

I am quite nervous of this and have had a second blood test done, not had the results yet, but the consultant said it was unlikely those PSA levels will be less than half the first test and a biopsy was the best way forward.

Is this the correct advice? Should i wait for 6 months to see where my PSA levels are going? Don't forget i'm only 42

Thanks
