Post TURP surgery only urinate if I strain, not normal to me

As an age 54 male my urine flow was decreasing family doctor diagnoised enlarged prostrate. Went on Terazosin to help flow. Then had urinary tract infection that shut down urine flow.  After urgent care referred to urologist.  Infection cleared up couldn't urinate, tried self catheterization.  After week only suggestion was to try TRUP. Now here I learned about anti inflammitory drugs for first time - wish I knew that option sooner.  Anyway 2 weeks later I had the TRUP and expected urine flow to be much stronger.  Instead I can't urinate unless I strain myself.  Surgery took place about 2 weeks ago. Urologist gave couple of self catheters and said I may always be dependent on them.  I'm feeling depressed wondering will I ever be able to urinate normally.  Have I been misled by being given surgery as the only option to solve prostate urine flow?  How do I know the Urologist did a good or bad TRUP surgery?

What is the range or recovery from this type of surgery mostly good with a seldom unable to urinate case like mine?  Recoverey infomation is what I'm trying to find out.  And any options I can do after this to help get urine flow back without straining.  Still on Terazosin that is suppose to help with urine flow. Depressing the tiny amount of recovery info I've gotten from my urologist and was so sure this would be a great help.

Any info anyone can provide would be helpful.   Thanks.
