Removal of the testes is an uncommon means nowadays to treat the spread of this disease. Most patients now are on medications known as LHRH analogs that create a medical castration rather than a surgical castration.  Side effects occur as a result of the lack of testosterone that occurs and include hot flashes, poor energy, a loss of libido and the long development of osteoporosis.
