Painful urination
I am 41 years old and just had Green Light Laser surgery on my prostate 4 weeks ago. The surgery went very well and I didn't need a catheter at all when I woke up. The problem is that ever since, I have had extreame pain when I start and when I stop urinating. I called my surgeon and he basically told me to 'man up'.
I have no problem dealing with the pain IF I know that this is only temporary, but he didn't say how long this pain would last. I have a follow up appointment with him at week 10 post surgery. Is this how long I should expect to have to wait for the pain to go away? Please help. I understand the prostate has to heel.....I just want a ball bark idea how long it's going to take so I can ease my mind. Thanks in advance
I can sympathize with you on your plight. I am 42 years old and just had the Green Light Laser Surgery 5 weeks ago. I fell into the 1% category of patients who had the most difficulties as a result. I only had my cath in for a day and a half and my wife and I took it out (that is a whole other story but i suggest the professionals for that). I have had more than normal pain, passing of clots, bleeding and horrendous bladder spasms! I saw my surgeon again last week and he informed me that while it's a rare situation it is not uncommon to have pain when you start and stop urinating. I also have extreme pain with ejaculation. My screams are definately not pleasure induced (sorry honey). The doc informed me that the pain could be there for 4 to 6 months after the surgery but will go away. He explained it's all part of the healing process and DO NOT PUSH to empty the bladder at the end. That "straining" can irritate the area and start bleeding again. My family doc prescribed vicodin for the pain and xanax for the spasms which HELPS tremendously! If you take it as needed it will definately help! Good luck to you my friend, I wish you well
