Q: Can't urinate due to nerve damage. What are the options?

My friend is male, 47 yrs old. He had an accident that caused nerve damage from his waist down. He just had a ft of his colon taken out, it still does not work. His bladder is doing the same thing. His bladder can be full and he doesn't know it. The only way he can get any urine out is to sit on the toliet and strain to have a bowel movement after an enema and he starts urinating some. He never empties only gets enough out so can fill up again. He has seen Dr. he is unsure of solution. What are his options? I feel so helpless seeming him have such a hard time and in so much pain. Also, he had many prostate surgeries because at first they thought that was his problem. Thanks
