Questions about recurring prostate cancer
Hi my dad who is currently 53 has his prostate removed 2 years ago due to prostate cancer and required no further treatment as they were happy that all the cancer had been removed. Three weeks ago at one of his normal checkup appointments his psa had gone up. On futher investigation it was shown that he has cancer again in the area where the prostate was. He is about to start radiation therapy everyday for 4 weeks. I have asked my dad about it all but he never really tells me much. As this is the 2nd time in 2 years that he has cancer I am wondering about his future. His doctor is pretty sure that the radiation treatment will cure the cancer as it has not spread but what are his chances that this will happen again? I know that it is different in every person but am starting to think that twice in 2 years is a lot.
If the cancer has not spread it is much easier to deal with. Get used to the word "control" as a recurrence means there were positive margins left but if it is still "encapsulated" there is a very good chance furthur treatment will work well.
Consider seed therapy (brachytherapy) They are having excellent results with this method
