Q: Can Flomax cause insomnia

I am a female and am taking Flomax because of frequent trips to the bathroom during the night.  Doctor said my bladder is not emptying and prescribed Flomax.  The frequent trips to the bathroom at night has been helped, but I have insomnia.  Is this a common side effect of Flomax?

Hi Ruby,

Thanks for your question.  You can learn more about some of the more common side effects here: Precautions and Side Effects of Flomax.

Although this specific article doesn't mention insomnia as a side effect, there are other sources on the internet (like the Multum drug database) that do list it as a possible outcome.  If this effect is bothering you, be sure to consult your pharmacist or prescribing physician to get a better idea of whether this might be just a temporary effect, or if there are other options to explore.
