Q: taking 75mg/wk warfarin, have just been put on flomax, now have bloody urine, what should I do

Have had one laser treatment and two TURPS which helped minimally with frequency and left me with situation where urine flow does not cut off cleanly resulting with drops escaping even after carefully attempting to squeeze them all out. These drops end up in underwear. Doctor instructed me to resume Flomax (which I was instructed to stop after the laser treatment. Currently, in attempt to regulate blood to  desireable limits, warfarin has been increased to 10mg/day for 6 days and 5mg/day for one day.  Both the flomax and increased warfarin are recent (4 days on the flomax and 10 days on increased wafarin. now have fairly consistent bloody urine

Hi Stanley,

 

Thanks for your question. You should check out our article on Blood in Urine by Dr. Donald Feeney.  In it, he says that "the discovery of either gross or microscopic blood in urine is a sure indication of the need to examine and evaluate the patient to discover the cause of this abnormality."

 

Be sure to check back in with your doctor because this is a development you should not ignore.
