Q: Can a reducible inguinal hernia cause pain at the base of penis causing inability to have erection?

The hernia is on the right side and has been diagnosed.  A couple of nights back, I had extreme pain on the left side that was in the line where the hip meets your body and the pain went to the base of my penis.  I went in to see the doctor today and said the left side was not a hernia.  Since then I tried to get an erection and could not and the pain still exists in the places I mentioned.  They are doing blood tests...but, I'm very concerned for I have never been unable to achieve erection.
