Q: Lupron and robotic surgery

My husband's urologist said that if he gave him the Lupron shot, it would be his prostate cancer in remission - it could not get any worse.  That way, we could spend time researching and deciding on a treatment we thought best.   ALAS, when we had an appointment with the surgeon whom will be doing the surgery, he was absolutely AGHAST that the urologist had given him the shot.  the surgeon said that it made surgery VERY difficult.   He said that if the urologist had read any of the recent findings on this, he should have KNOWN not to give it.  this is very disturbing.  In addition, my husband's doctor, knowing that his PSA was higher than last year and told him to go see the urologist - put him on TESTOSTERONE.   Then, after four months on this, we were told that prostate cancer THRIVES on that.  We are most discouraged about what has happened prior to finding out he has prostate cancer.....

We went to the ProstRCision clinic in Atlanta, and the surgeon threw up his arms in disbelief - said they make claims that are not true, seeds could end up in the rectum, etc, etc.  On and on he went.  We had been very impressed with the Atlanta clinic but were scared to death and have now decided on the robotic surgery.

Any commends?????

Thanks for any information...  We are kind of bummed right now.

Many surgeons continue to use Lupron therapy prior to surgery on the prostate and there is no definitive evidence, just subjective observation that the surgery would be more difficult. Testosterone replacement therapy can be used after treatement but is not commonly used prior to treatment

Radiaton therapy can be used either via external beam with no seeds being used, or with the placement of seeds. With a  skilled team of radiation oncology and Urologist treating you, the likelihood of seed migration or placement of seeds into the rectum would be very rare
