Q: I recently had my prostate removed becuase it was full of cancer. Could the cancer come back and if so, how can I be proactive about it .

I didn't even know I had prostate cancer. I had an enlarged prostate since I was in my 30s. My PSA was 3.7. My doctor said I was a perfect canidate for a TURP. It was when they did the TURP, the doctor suprise he found cancer so I had my prostate removed. Could the cancer come back and if so, how can I be assured it didn't travel somewhere else. How can I be proactive about it.

Despite having undergone a radical prostatectomy, prostate cancer can come recur. It is important to discuss with your Urologist the status of your surgical margins from the operation. There is nothing that you can do proactively to prevent recurrence, however periodic PSA monitoring would be wise.
