Patients can have both prostate cancer and an enlarged prostate. The strategy to shrink the prostate prior to the placement of the seeds is very common, however most Urologists would use an LH/RH analog instead of Avodart.  Placing seeds in a large prostate is not as effective as placing seeds in a smaller prostate. Additionally larger glands can pose a problem with regards to the accuracy of the seed placement.
