You would not get a free PSA number with a total PSA number below 4 or above 10. The free % number is accurate and valid only for total PSA numbers between 4 and 10. If your total PSA is between 4 and 10, you would want a higher number, usually stated as greater than 25%. A lower number (below 25%) would be a concern and a urologist would have to advise on the next step to take. By the way, the free PSA would be given as a number and also as a percent, the % number being the key indicator.
