Q: I have been taking Avodart & Flomax for about a year now. Could it be effecting my eyesight?

I feel that my vision has been getting worse over this time. I am also about to turn 60 so it could be age related. Is there any evidence that these meds cause vision problems?

Hi Michael,

You can read more about the Side Effects of Avodart and the Side Effects of Flomax.

The page on Flomax side effects mentions this:

"Dizziness, unusual weakness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, blurred vision, runny nose, or problems ejaculating may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur:

* fainting
* vision changes"

Please check with your doctor about this.  Although it may be age-related, you shouldn't take a chance on it.

Hope this helps,

Dan

I too have been on flomax and Avodart and suddenly my left eyesight has become blurred... almost hazy.  I went to my eye doctor and he provided a complete exam and can not find anything wrong.  I am 57 and thought maybe it was just the aging process but this is not normal.. I am scheduling an appt. with my doctor this week to go off of the medications..
