The largest trial yet conducted on Vitamin E and selenium has found that the supplements are no help in preventing prostate cancer. The study of more than 35,000 men at 400 locations began in 2001, but researchers have asked the participants to stop taking the supplements because preliminary data shows two worrying trends. Researchers say that the men taking Vitamin E alone had a slightly higher rate of prostate cancer, while men taking selenium were more likely to develop diabetes.
