Study: Hormone therapy may increase prostate death risk

A new study raises more questions about the benefit of hormone therapy in some men with prostate cancer. Researchers studied 1,707 prostate cancer patients and found that men over the age of 70 who were treated with hormones before their seed implants had a 20 percent higher risk of death than the men who were treated with implants alone. After five years, nearly three percent more of the men who had taken hormones had died. Previous studies have not shown an increased risk of death, some experts point out, but they suggest that men and their doctors should carefully weigh the risks and benefits of hormone therapy on an individual basis.  Read full story >
