Obesity may interfere with prostate cancer blood test

Blood tests that screen for prostate cancer may not be able to accurately diagnose the disease in obese men, new studies show. Obese men have lower concentrations of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in their blood, either because they have higher blood volume or lower levels of testosterone, researchers suggest. Because most cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed after a blood test registers high PSA levels in the blood, obesity could cause the test to miss the presence of the disease.  Read full story >
