PSA testing: What should men do?

Two conflicting studies on the benefit of PSA tests have come out this week, leaving many patients and experts wondering about the best course of action. A ten-year study of 77,000 men found a higher death rate among the men who received an annual PSA test. In contrast, a European study 182,000 men found PSA screening reduced the risk of death by 20 percent. Currently, experts do not suggest that men get annual prostate exams unless they are at high risk, because they say that treating a slow-moving cancer unnecessarily could lead to impotence, incontinence, or death.  Read full story >
