Several new studies suggest that cholesterol-lowering statins help prevent prostate cancer and reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction. In one study, researchers found that men who took statins before having their prostate removed were 30 percent less likely to experience a cancer recurrence. Another study found that statins were associated with an overall reduction in prostate inflammation. But experts caution patients and doctors not to jump to conclusions about using statins for treatment. They say an optimal dose, and long-term repercussions are still unknown.
