Stoicism makes men more likely to die from cancer

Men's tendency to play down symptoms and adopt more unhealthy lifestyles makes them more than 40 percent more likely to die from cancer than women, researchers say. And when the scientists excluded gender-specific cancers such as breast and prostate cancer from the British study, men were 70 percent more likely to die from cancer and over 60 percent more likely to develop a form of the disease. The study's lead researcher said that men's "stiff upper lip" is the likely cause of the difference in cancer death rates, along with the fact that men are less likely to make lifestyle changes to improve their health.  Read full story >
