Proscar appears safer than first thought

Researchers say the prostate drug finasteride (Proscar/Propecia) may not be as much of a health risk as previously thought. The drug has been shown to prevent prostate cancer in about one in five men who take it, but doctors have been leery of precribing it because of a study that suggested that men who went on to develop cancer got a more aggressive form. But a new study suggests that is not true. In fact, researchers say it does not cause cancer to be more aggressive--it just makes it easier to diagnose.  Read full story >
