Cancer patients with marital trouble have worse survival rates

Prostate cancer patients who are separated at the time of their diagnosis have worse survival rates than other unmarried patients, a new study has found. Among unmarried patients, those who are separated have the lowest survival rate, followed by widowers, divorced patients, and those who were never married. Married patients have the highest five and 10 year survival rate, the researchers found. Experts say the stress of separation may compromise the immune system, leading to worse health overall.
