New Medication May Aid Late-Stage Prostate Patients

A Phase 3 trail on the drug abiraterone has found it may benefit patients with late-stage prostate cancer. The study of 47 men who had undergone hormone therapy and docetaxel found that about three quarters of those who took abiraterone experienced a drop in PSA levels. Half of the men in the trail experienced a drop of at least 50 percent, and five of the 47 patients in the trial were reported to still be taking the drug three years after the study started.
