My mom has RA and is wondering about how others are dealing with the expense involved with taking humira.  Are there any programs out there that can help offset some of the crazy costs?  Her out of pocket is ridiculous and there are no medical plans that we have found who will cover much of the cost.  Thanks!

Happy Holidays to you and your Mom! Yes there is possibly assistance for you with the medication Humira. Contact the Humira assistance line at 1-800-4-HUMIRA and ask for their drug assistance application. It is income qualified and you will have to have your doctor sign the application too. Also, ask your doctor if Humira is having any clinical trials that you can participate in. I'm currently participating in one (6 months) with them that compares taking a single 80mg dose/month to the already approved 40mg dose/bi-weekly. All costs including blood tests, doctor visits (1/month) and the drug are free.

It takes about 4 weeks to get approved for their assistance program, so don't delay. I was approved before I began the clinical trial. You will have to re-apply each year to remain qualified.

I hope this helps.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Best wishes,

Bret

Bret,

Happy Holidays to you too!  Thank you so much for your response.  My mom was encouraged to hear that there may be some options that we hadn't thought of.  We will pursue both the Humira assistance program and the possibility of participating in a clinical trial.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
