Has anyone put their RA into remission naturally? I was just diagnosed and don't know enough about the steps I should take.

Friday, May 08, 2009 at 09:54 AMI am into tha all natural thing too, however god has given doctors a ability to develop medicnes for a reason so I would use them in conjuction with standard medicine. I have used only natural stuff mostly hylands brand for 2 years and my hand joints and knee joints are mush. Two years ago I had only mild aches and pains now I take strong pain medicine on a daily basis as well as other medicine. I have a aunt that has ms and she will only take natural medicine and she is progressively getting worse her latest is fasting to cure her ms I think if this stuff really worked there would be no reason for standard medicine. I still use some homopatic stuff but I would also do what your doctor tells you. The risk of damage and quality of life is not worth it. I understand you not wanting to put all that medicine in your body I was exposed to a very bad chemical when I was little and now I have bad reactions to many medicines I cannot even were clothing unless its all cotton or silk with out breaking out in a rash and up till a few months ago I had never taken medicine but now that I am used to it its not as bad infact I can now care for my kids daily even during a bad flare its not easy but I can and thats the point. I was a hermit for a while and now I can actually go out places and even take my two and three year old little ones I am slow but can, I wish I would have tried real medicine first and used homopatic with it because it does have some effect but not enough for such a mean and agressive disease. At the very most you can expect it to lessen your need for standard medicine and help with side effects.

It may be "both/and" rather than "either/or"

Friday, May 08, 2009 at 12:50 PMHi - you might want to check out response to my recent share/post about natural vs. 'medicine' at http://www.healthcentral.com/rheumatoid-arthritis/c/55014/69903/share. (I'm not sure how to link directly). From what I have learned & tried, complementary alternative treatment can help symptoms but will not stop the progression of the disease.
So - you can choose from both alternatives, whatever is the best combination.
Good luck, it's a rough road for the first year especially, because it takes time to find out your individual reaction to various meds & treatments... keeping in mind that whatever you can do to keep stress under control, will also help you feel better. If that means regular meds/meditation/acupuncture/massage/homeopathy/ayurveda/herbs/traditional meds - go for it!

I am not a big fan of the natural stuff. I am sure they work on some aspects. But a remission? Doubtful at best in my book. I do take Omega 3 and a few other items, can't say they do me any good, but they don't hurt either. If you are looking for remission, I truly think you need some powerful drugs. When push comes to shove, everything is natural, it all comes from what we have at hand on the earth.
Hope you feel better soon!
